It is incredible how insurance quotes can differ from company to company. By this I mean all types of insurance from car and van insurance through to health, home and personal belongings. And not just the base price, but also what it includes with for money as you can be very surprised what is charged as extras by some.
Take student insurance as an example, just basic belongings insurance for a student in a hall of residence. You would not think that it would be very high, would you? But having seen an advertisement specifically for students insurance with a well-known bank I checked it out.
Belongings were included in the base price but computer equipment and a bicycle was extra. So far so good, then you get to the last page, over £100. For a student?
It seemed a bit high but I almost went for it, then at the last minute I thought (belatedly I admit) of asking my own home insurers. They took a few details and half an hour later my son was covered – including computer equipment and bicycle – for free! Yes, they had included it in my overall home insurance as the values were not high.
Now you can see how much quotes can differ between companies. No matter how well known an insurer is, don't take it for granted they are the cheapest and always shop around.
